Seniors interested in joining the military may be eligible for civilian roles which support the military. While age limits apply to active duty military roles, there are no age limits for civilian roles.

You could work at a military base, be based overseas or in a warzone. Your working environment may be physically and emotionally demanding and outdoors in all weathers. You may need to wear protective clothing and a uniform.
The Army and Air National National Guard maximum age for prior service enlistment is 59. The Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserve maximum age of enlistment for prior service is 32, after computing the prior-service age adjustment.
In general, the Defense Department restricts enlistment to those 35 and younger. Prior enlisted service members can subtract their previous years of service from their age in order to extend eligibility. For example, the current age cutoff in the Air Force is 39.
The maximum age to join the Army as an enlisted Soldier is 35, while Officers must accept their commission before age 31. However, the Army can lift some restrictions based on the need for certain roles to be filled. It's possible to receive an age waiver, especially if you have prior military service.
The average U.S. Army salary ranges from approximately $33,066 per year for Quartermaster to $92,168 per year for Commander. The average U.S. Army monthly salary ranges from approximately $1,760 per month for Radio and Communications Security Repairer to $10,361 per month for Medical Officer.
What is the time commitment? As an active-duty Soldier, you'll serve in the Army full time for the duration of your service commitment. Active-duty service terms typically last two to six years, but your service length may vary depending on a number of factors, such as your Army job or decision to reenlist.
Basic Combat Training (BCT) is a ten-week training course (not including the "Reception" week) where recruits go-through the process of becoming full- fledged Soldiers. Throughout the process the soldiers will learn new rules, learn to trust themself and understand what it means to be a Soldier in the U.S. Army.
[1] Within the 17–35 age range, the Services have different age ceilings. The Army and Navy accept applicants up to age 35; the Air Force accepts recruits prior to their 28th birthday, and the Marine Corps age limit is 29.
For older recruits, the most obvious hurdle could be age itself. Though the maximum age to join the Army as an enlisted soldier is 35 and officers must accept their commission by 31, “it's possible to receive an age waiver if you [can] retire with 20 years of military service by age 55,” according to the Army.
For the Army's recruiting woes, the decline is spread across America's regions. The Northeast saw the worst dip, losing 40% of male recruits between 2012 and 2022.
Unless retired or separated earlier, each regular commissioned officer of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Space Force serving in a general or flag officer grade shall be retired on the first day of the month following the month in which the officer becomes 64 years of age.
